Don’t know if you’ve noticed—things change. And sometimes that change is upsetting, like when your favorite pants go out of style (RIP, skinny jeans). And sometimes that change just makes sense.

Health care is a good example. We don’t drain you of blood when you’re sick anymore. We don’t prescribe cigarettes for asthma. We wash our hands before we touch you! New therapies are discovered, old therapies are proven inefficient, knowledge increases and expands, and the field of medicine changes every day. In order to take the best possible care of patients, so does a good doctor.

Why are we talking about this? Because Internists Associated is making a major update. After more than 40 years in business in Muncie, we’re changing our name to Muncie Primary Care.

Here’s why: It seems increasingly fewer people understand the term “internist” and assume we are a group of specialists they need a referral to visit. We often hear anecdotes of folks moving to town and looking past us in their search results, confused by the name.

On the contrary, we are here to be our patients’ first partner in improving and safeguarding their health. Our mission is to serve those 18 to 100+ with the health challenges of every age.

And we would like to serve more of them! Our practice began with just Dr. Megan Zelasko’s mom and dad, Dr. Steve Allen and nurse Cindy Allen. Now we’re a practice of five doctors, two nurse practitioners and more than 30 staff. We want to continue to grow and improve and help even more people. And we think being the only family-owned medical practice in the area gives us a unique ability to do that.

Here’s what’s NOT changing at Internists Associated turned Muncie Primary Care:

• Our location—though look for an exciting announcement about that soon!

• Our staff—though we’re very happy to welcome our newest doctor, Dr. Berlon, this summer.

• Our commitment to our community and the generations of people we’ve cared for here.

We’re not moving, we’re not closing, we’re just changing our name. That’s all. But it will hopefully help more patients find us, and it will definitely better reflect who we are.

Thank you for staying with us on this journey.
